Pre-Existing Conditions

The web is full of travel insurance comparison sites, and we should know, we are one(!), that can offer policies from just a few pounds, but what about trying to find cover when you have a pre-existing medical condition? Now we are talking about something that is not so easy to find.

Brand New Review Pages!

Posted by Peter Rudin-Burgess on March 3, 2013 at 6:25 pm. Categories: Currency Cards, Exchange Rates, Travel Insurance

It is not often that we get to anounced something completely new but today is one of those days. Up until now we have shown reviews for each currency supplier and you have been able to add your own reviews but only from suppliers we already feature. As from today you can now add reviews for any company whether we feature them or not.

We are not only interested in currency suppliers. We already feature reviews from a wide range of travel insurers and we would like you to start adding any other travel companies that you have used.

Travel Insurance fraud ‘Common’

According to research carried out in 2011 by Direct Line Travel Insurance, nearly 8 million holidaymakers made a fraudulent claim. The research found that 15 percent of claimants inflated the value of their claims. AXA Travel Insurance (2012) believe that the motivation is financial as people either inflate claims to cover the excess or just try and recoup the cost of the insurance in the first place

Of the people who admitted making an inaccurate travel insurance claim:

  • 5 percent fabricated their claim completely
  • 15 percent inflated the value of their claim

When I was doing the research for this article the first reactions of everyone I spoke to was “pickpockets” and/or “money belts”. These are prefectly valid concerns but things have moved on in the last ten years and most of us are actually carrying contactless debit and credit cards. I will leave you to think for a second about what that means before I continue.

Buying Travel Insurance

Posted by Peter Rudin-Burgess on September 22, 2011 at 8:00 am. Categories: Travel Insurance

Buying travel insurance will help you get financial and practical help if anything goes wrong on your holiday or business trip. Unfortunately, sickness, crime or accidents do happen. Help yourself by knowing what to look for in travel insurance policies.

The Fundermentals

Travel insurance varies widely on price and levels of cover. If your trip is going to involve specific sports or activities that are considered risky by your insurer, check that your policy provides extra cover for that particular activity. If not, you may need to call a specialist insurance provider. Get several quote before you choose your travel insurance, check the reviews and make sure those reviews cover both the buying process and the claims process and check carefully what each policy offers.

Resolving Travel Insurance Disputes 2011

According to the Financial Ombudsman travel insurance disputes continue to make up a significant proportion of their case load. Travel insurance disputes are as unique as the traveller that take out the policies but broadly fall into two predominant categories that make up more than half of all the cases referred to for dispute resolution. In the simplest terms the majority of dispute are over A Whether a particular event is covered by a policy; or B pre-existing conditions.

So what is covered?

Travel Insurance, Who you gonna call?..

Posted by Peter Rudin-Burgess on August 31, 2011 at 3:04 pm. Categories: Travel Insurance

Reading some of the reviews we receive regarding travel insurance you are quite possibly better off with either Ghostbusters or 118. Hopefully all of you have come to us, bought your holiday money (getting the best exchange rate of course), grabbed some travel insurance and went off on a lovely sojourn in the sun with not a care in the world or a cloud in the sky. If that describes your summer holiday then you probably don’t have a lot to say about the quality of the travel insurance you bought or the customer service your received. If on the other hand things went a little (or a lot) pear shaped on holiday then you are probably, as we speak, printing off claim forms and reading your policies key cover and exclusions documents.
