How we display buy back rates
You might notice the New Zealand dollar rates shown here are different to the New Zealand dollar rates offered by currency suppliers on our comparison pages. The rates are actually the same but are just presented in different ways. When we talk about the NZD / GBP exchange rate, we show the NZD rate relative to the pound so a rate of 0.5112 literally means 1 NZD = 0.5112 GBP.
However, UK currency suppliers choose to show this rate in terms of the amount of New Zealand dollars you would need to exchange to receive 1 GBP, so (1 /) 0.5112 becomes 1.956. Or put another way, 1.956 NZD = 1 GBP. The two rates are interchangeable but currency suppliers prefer to show the second rate which they call the buy back rate.
