Packing for a Festival abroad

This summer many British travellers are set to go abroad to see their favourite artists at music festivals. Packing lightly is not always an option when camping. Therefore, it is important to consider which items are essential and which items are a luxury. Part of the fun of going to a festival is making do with what you have, so here is a list of essential items you should consider taking to a festival abroad.

Waterproof Tent

If you are leaving the UK to attend a festival, chances are you are going somewhere sunny. Still, it would dampen the experience – literally and metaphorically – if you were to be caught out by bad weather. Remember there is a difference between ‘water resistant’ and ‘waterproof’ so do not be mistaken when making your purchase.

Camping Mats and Sleeping Bag

In an ideal world, camping is more comfortable if you have an inflatable mattress to hand. However, when travelling abroad this can take up valuable space in your luggage. You could either invest in a camping mat, but if you already own a yoga mat this saves you repurchasing a very similar item. If you are sleeping on a thinner ‘mattress’, it may be worth investing in a higher quality sleeping bag which may give you more comfort. I also recommend this to be waterproof, just in case!

Sun Protection and Reusable bottle

Festivals are an easy place to find yourself dehydrated and your skin burnt. Day drinking can leave you unaware of your water intake and it can be easy to lose track of how much alcohol you have consumed. I recommend having a reusable bottle of water on hand, because if it’s there you are more likely to drink water. Also pack your preferred brand of sun cream and after sun. You wouldn’t want to find yourself feeling unwell after travelling so far for the festival experience.

Your Passport, ID and Ticket

These all go without saying, of course. However, these are probably the three most vital items on your list. Without these items, you will probably not be able to attend the festival. Check your passport is in date. If your festival ticket is on your phone, it may be worth printing a copy in case something happens to your phone.

Miscellaneous Items to consider

Here is a list of various items you should consider packing for your festival abroad.

  • Bug Repellent
  • String (makes a good washing line!)
  • Long life portable chargers (arrive charged)
  • Earplugs
  • Portable Speakers
  • Torch
