Croatia Currency Information

The Croatian currency is the Kuna which is divided into 100 lipas. (The word ‘Kuna’ means 'Marten' a type of weasel whose fur Croats used as payment centuries ago)!

The Kuna comes in dominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 as notes and 1, 2, 5 and 25 as coins. The Lipa comes in coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50.

The current Kuna was introduced on May 30th, 1994 and replaced the Croatian Dinar over a transition period lasting until 31st December, 1994. The Kuna was initially pegged to the German mark but switched to the euro when that was replaced in 1999.
