How we display buy back rates
You might notice the Brazilian real rates shown here are different to the Brazilian real rates offered by currency suppliers on our comparison pages. The rates are actually the same but are just presented in different ways. When we talk about the BRL / GBP exchange rate, we show the BRL rate relative to the pound so a rate of 0.1489 literally means 1 BRL = 0.1489 GBP.
However, UK currency suppliers choose to show this rate in terms of the amount of Brazilian reals you would need to exchange to receive 1 GBP, so (1 /) 0.1489 becomes 6.717. Or put another way, 6.717 BRL = 1 GBP. The two rates are interchangeable but currency suppliers prefer to show the second rate which they call the buy back rate.
