How we display buy back rates
You might notice the Jamaican dollar rates shown here are different to the Jamaican dollar rates offered by currency suppliers on our comparison pages. The rates are actually the same but are just presented in different ways. When we talk about the JMD / GBP exchange rate, we show the JMD rate relative to the pound so a rate of 0.005189 literally means 1 JMD = 0.005189 GBP.
However, UK currency suppliers choose to show this rate in terms of the amount of Jamaican dollars you would need to exchange to receive 1 GBP, so (1 /) 0.005189 becomes 192.7. Or put another way, 192.7 JMD = 1 GBP. The two rates are interchangeable but currency suppliers prefer to show the second rate which they call the buy back rate.
