Best Kuwaiti dinar exchange rate

The dinar has been the official currency of Kuwait since the country gained independence from British colonial rule in 1960. Since it's introduction, the dinar has been pegged to a basket of international currencies which helps to keep the exchange rate in sync with other major world economies. The Central Bank of Kuwait's prudent economic policies, combined with Kuwait's vast oil reserves, make the dinar one of the most stable and most valuable currencies in the world.

If you're travelling to Kuwait, it's important to shop around and compare currency suppliers to maximise your chances of getting a good deal. We can help you to find the best Kuwaiti dinar exchange rate by comparing a wide range of UK travel money suppliers who have Kuwaiti dinars in stock and ready to order online now. Our comparisons automatically factor in all costs and commission, so all you need to do is tell us how much you want to spend and we'll show you the top suppliers who fit the bill.

Compare before you buy

Some of the best travel money deals are only available when you buy online. By using a comparison site, you're more likely to see the full range of deals on offer and get the best rate.

Order online

Always place your order online, even if you plan to collect your currency in person. Most supermarkets and high street currency suppliers offer better exchange rates if you order online beforehand.

Combine orders

If you're travelling with others, consider placing one large currency order instead of buying individually. Many currency suppliers offer enhanced rates that improve as you order more.

Kuwaiti dinar banknotes and coins

Kuwaiti dinars are governed and issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait (Bank Al-Markazi).

The symbol for Kuwaiti dinars is د.ك. The symbol is a combination of the letters 'ك' and 'د' which are the first letters of 'kuwaiti' and 'dinar' in Arabic. The symbol is usually written as 'KD' in English, and 'dinars' are pronounced 'dee-nars'.

One Kuwaiti dinar can theoretically be subdivided into 1000 fils, although most transactions are rounded to the nearest 5 or 10 fils for convenience and the smallest unit of physical currency you're likely to come across is the 5-fil coin.

There are five denominations of Kuwaiti dinar coins in frequent circulation and six denominations of banknotes. Coins are available in denominations of 5 fils, 10 fils, 20 fils, 50 fils and 100 fils, and banknotes are available in denominations of 0.25 KD, 0.5 KD, 1 KD, 5 KD, 10 KD and 20 KD. Each banknote features a portrait of the late Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on the front; while the reverse depicts iconic Kuwaiti landmarks and buildings such as the Kuiwait State Mosque, Seif Palace and Liberation Tower.

The Kuwaiti dinar is considered an important part of Kuwait's national identity. It represents the country's economic prosperity and the contributions of Kuwaiti people to the nation's development. Many Kuwaitis take pride in their currency as a symbol of their country's success and progress.
