Icelandic krona to pounds Sterling

One Icelandic kronur (kr) can be subdivided into 100 aurar, although aurars are no longer in circulation due to their low value and the smallest unit of currency you're likely to come across is the kr 1 coin. There are five denominations of Icelandic kronur banknotes in circulation: kr 500, kr 1000, kr 2000, kr 5000 and kr 10000; and five coin denominations: kr 1, kr 5, kr 10, kr 50 and kr 100.

The current series of Icelandic kronur banknotes in circulation is the '2001 Series' which was introduced by the Central Bank of Iceland in 2001. Each banknote in the series features distinct designs that highlight Icelandic nature, history, and culture. For instance, the kr 500 note depicts a portrait of Jón Sigurðsson, a key figure in Iceland's struggle for independence, and an image of the Icelandic coastline. The kr 1000 note showcases the portrait of Brynjólfur Sveinsson; an Icelandic bishop and scholar, and the image of the Lögberg, the Law Rock in Þingvellir, while the kr 2000 note features a portrait of the Icelandic poet Jónas Hallgrímsson and the image of a seabird, symbolising the country's rich birdlife.
