Last year Mica McNeill and her bobsleigh team came to prominence after doing very well at the winter Olympics which was helped by raising a lot of their sponsorship through crowdfunding. At that time Compare Holiday Money were also proud to sponsor the team and help them to achieve success.
The Summer has been busy with preparations for the winter campaign and we are pleased to be able to continue our sponsorship for the coming season along with other companies including DHL.
There has also been a change of personnel which saw Mica Moore who had been Mica McNeill’s brakewoman at the Winter Olympics head off to University. This has meant that Montell Douglas and Aleasha Kiddle are the brakewomen that partner Mica McNeill for the forthcoming season. The Team left for Canada at the end of October to be able to get back on the ice and prepare for the first North American Cup race.
The plan for the first half of the season is to participate in the North American Cup and then head to Europe to join the World Cup circuit and then compete in the World Championships which are in March 2019 in Whistler, Canada.
Onto the first race of the North American Cup on the 8th November and the Team we looking to open the season strong but after a crash in training the Team was not 100% back to normal and therefore didn’t record any results for Race 1 & 2. The Team moved onto Park City and were looking to improve and continue building on the new partnership for this season.
DHL Team McNeill arrived in Park City and were looking to secure a podium place in the North American Cup The competition took place on the 19th and 20th of November and after the disappointment of Whistler it was smiles all round.
After the first run of Race 3 of the North America’s Cup it saw Mica McNeill with brakewoman Montell Douglas leading by 0.2 second and that was increased to 0.36 second after the second run securing the top step of the podium and the first medal of the season.
Overnight the good form was carried into Race 4 of the America’s Cup and after the first run the same Team of McNeill and Douglas were lying in second position. However, a strong second run saw the British pair secure their second gold medal in as many days. Team McNeill then flew on to Lake Placid where they competed in Races 5 & 6 of the North American Cup on the 30th November and 1st December. The good from was to continue and in Race 5 Mica McNeill secured a another gold medal with Montell Douglas as brakewoman finishing ahead of the competition by +0.49 second.
Then it was the turn of Aleasha Kiddle to take on the brakewoman duties for Race 6 in Lake Placid and for Mica McNeill is was a fourth straight gold medal. The pair won Race 6 by a stunning +3.19 seconds. Mica McNeill had this to say about their time in Canada and North America; “The new Team McNeill is working very well so far. As a new team we are getting on fantastic and finding form as we get more heats together. The trip to North America was in the plan to maximise ice time before the World Cup Races begin in Winterberg and it has been very successful covering 3 tracks. The races were warm up races to prepare us for the World Cup and to be able to get our brains back into race mode but to come away with 4 golds is amazing! Going to a track where Home Nations are competing is always going to be tough, but we performed to the best of our ability and it showed on race day. The team is very excited for a few days at home to catch up with coaches and refresh ready for our first World Cup race on the 15th December”.
